There is a new attraction at the city's Vivarium Zoo: a second petting enclosure with Karakul sheep. The enclosure, which visitors can walk through, was built on the site of the former yak enclosure and was financed by bauverein AG to the tune of 6,000 euros. bauverein AG has been a sponsor of the municipal zoo since 2012. The necessary conversion work on the barn and the enclosure was carried out by the Zoo Vivarium's own craftsmen and animal keepers. The new petting enclosure is now home to three Karakul sheep and a buck.
At the beginning of 2018, bauverein AG began the construction of a new building at Haardtring 362. In order to integrate the new building into the existing, extremely heterogeneous neighbourhood, the building was planned with four storeys and a flat roof. This created a link to the neighbouring buildings. Six 3-room flats and ten 4-room flats are planned. All flats are barrier-free and accessible via a lift.
This construction project celebrated its halfway point in October 2018 and the topping-out wreath was hoisted. The new building with 16 subsidised flats is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2019.
In 2017, bauverein AG decided to forego Christmas presents for its business partners and instead donated to two organisations: 1,800 euros each went to the organisations "Das Rotzfreche SPIELMOBIL der SJD - Die Falken Darmstadt e.V." and "Urban Garden Darmstadt e.V.". The symbolic donation cheque was handed over by Sybille Wegerich and Armin Niedenthal, CEO of bauverein AG, on 28 February 2018. In 2018, the Management Board of bauverein AG once again decided to forego Christmas presents for its business partners in favour of supporting the ROPE e.V. network in Kranichstein and the "Anna" project at Darmstadt's paediatric clinics with 1,800 euros each. The "Anna" project offers children and young people in crisis situations and suffering from mental health problems, for example, a competent point of contact. The employees of bauverein AG also once again gave up their Christmas presents and instead donated 1,000 euros each to the "Wildwasser e.V." association and the Maltester children's hospice service.
In 2018, bauverein AG also supported a large number of projects and associations throughout the year that contribute to maintaining the quality of life and housing for customers, for example. This also includes educating young and old about waste avoidance and disposal. bauverein AG has therefore been working for a long time to sensitise its tenants to waste avoidance and disposal - with information brochures and posters, educational videos, tips in the customer magazine and information signs. In addition, the company has been supporting the annual waste collection campaign "Sauber-haftes Eberstadt" (Clean Eberstadt) organised in the district of Eberstadt for many years. In 2018, an environmental action week was held for the first time around the one-day waste collection campaign, with an offer for residents of the district at different locations every day of the week between 10 and 18 March. To appeal to children in particular and draw attention to how waste can be avoided and disposed of correctly, the participatory theatre "Herr Stinknich" was invited for the first time in 2018. The extensive programme is traditionally organised by the Eberstadt-Süd district workshop, local institutions and sponsors such as bauverein AG.
Built in 1972, the senior citizens' residential complex in Schwarzen Weg has been completely redesigned and upgraded, including the outside area and entrance. The result is now adapted to the needs of senior citizens; an integrated guiding strip (tactile floor guidance system) helps blind and visually impaired people to find their way around.
Parallel to the remodelling work in the park, the fire safety of the residential complex was further improved and the fire service access routes were redesigned. In addition, bauverein AG worked with the EAD to replace the previous container rubbish bins, some of which had a concrete base, with a state-of-the-art underfloor system. In the case of underground facilities, only the drop-off points are above ground, but the waste is stored underground in containers.
Furthermore, four additional flats were created at Schwarzen Weg 18c by converting space formerly used for commercial purposes on the ground floor. This created space for four publicly subsidised two-bedroom flats, each with a terrace in front. In total, the Schwarzer Weg senior citizens' residential complex now has 115 subsidised flats.
As a small thank-you and compensation for the inconvenience caused by the conversion, a barbecue was organised to mark the inauguration.
The 17 flats in the property were rented out until 2017, most recently on fixed-term contracts as modernisation was already being planned. In 2018, bauverein AG began modernising the building and refurbishing its energy efficiency. The special thing about it: the municipal property service provider used a natural material for the insulation for the first time and opted for hemp. The major modernisation of Viktoriastrasse 42 was therefore a pilot project for hemp insulation in an apartment building. The project also focussed on the use of certified, non-toxic and easily recyclable materials. All materials used in the modernisation were submitted to an expert before the start of construction and approved for installation. In mid-July, bauverein AG began refurbishing the vacant building. The façade and roof were refurbished and the top floor was also converted as part of the roof renovation. This created four additional flats.
A successful year in the Lincoln estate came to an end. A total of three topping-out wreaths were hoisted in 2018. As with almost all new construction projects on the estate, attention was paid to a heterogeneous mix of flats. New building number four was also on schedule and celebrated its topping-out ceremony in early 2019. Construction work on this project began in June 2018.
Marketing started at the beginning of 2019 and the first 173 new-build flats in the Lincoln estate will be ready for occupancy from June 2019. An extensive information event was held at the darmstadtium.
The neighbourhood guide published by bauverein AG with the support of the GWH housing association and the Kranichstein trade association brings together around 100 addresses - divided into the chapters "Advice and services", "Institutions", "Social & culture", "Shopping & restaurants" and "Health". On more than 80 pages - just in time for the 50th anniversary of the neighbourhood - you will find information on the authorities based in Kranichstein, on clubs, schools and churches, as well as on shopping facilities and pharmacies. bauverein AG, which owns 700 flats in Kranichstein and whose company headquarters have been located here since 2004, is also one of the institutions that have deliberately chosen to settle in this attractive district.
The major modernisation of the listed ensemble in Rhönring/Spessartring, which began in 2016, continued in 2018. The buildings at Rhönring 60/Taunusstraße 56, Rhönring 62/Taunusstraße 55, Rhönring 64/Kranichsteiner Straße 58, Rhönring 56/Lichtenbergstraße 82 and Rhönring 58/ Lichtenbergstraße 91 were modernised. Work began on Rhönring 44 and Rhönring 44a/Pankratiusstrasse 73 in October 2018.
Major modernisation work also began at Kasinostrasse 63-69 / Alicenstrasse 34 and Liebigstrasse 20 + 2. bauverein AG began to refurbish a building erected in 1974 with 45 residential and two commercial units in Kasinostrasse / Alicenstrasse, close to the city centre. This also included the refurbishment of the roof terraces. At the end of August 2018, modernisation work began on the building at Liebigstrasse 20 + 22, located in the heart of the Johannesviertel district, where the roof is to be extended to create two new flats.
