The view from the penthouse flats in Goethestrasse stretches as far as the Odenwald and Bergstrasse, although the neighbourhood is in a prime city location on the western edge of Bessungen. A residential complex was built here in 2007 on an area of almost 7,000 m² on the former Telekom site, and its 114 flats are not visible - the result of well-balanced architecture which, despite the high density, suggests airiness and ensures that the flats and terraces receive the maximum amount of light.
The spacious flats are spread over five relatively simple four-storey buildings and a staggered storey; the ground floor flats boast gardens, while all other flats have balconies. The apartments range from 1-room flats to 5-room flats, from 45 m² to 189 m². The planners paid particular attention to the energy concept and the multimedia offering. The Cityquartier not only has a controlled ventilation system with energy-saving heat recovery, which ensures energy savings of 45%, but also a solar thermal system that can cover up to 65% of hot water requirements using solar energy. The multimedia offering is also tailored to a discerning clientele. In Goethestrasse, for example, fibre-optic cable was laid to the flat for the first time in Germany. This means that residents can use the so-called Triple Play, which includes high-speed Internet access, a telephone and a TV connection.
The building on Donnersbergring, designed by architects Dubokovic and Greulich, is also part of the Cityquartier. The striking, compact-looking building is a real eye-catcher, not least due to its characteristic light brown folding shutters, and was awarded the Joseph Maria Olbrich Plaque and the "Best Architecture" prize in 2013.
