In 2015, bauverein AG began to completely refurbish the eight-storey residential building at Kurt-Schumacher-Straße 5. With new sanitary facilities,
windows and balconies as well as heat-insulating exterior insulation, the ageing residential building was brought up to the latest technical and energy standards.
From the outset, the major modernisation project presented additional challenges. Not only was the building built in 1966 and comprising 48 flats
to be modernised in an occupied state. During a preliminary investigation, harmful substances, including asbestos and PCBs (polychlorinated
biphenyls), were also found in the pipework and the joints of the external façade. The major modernisation was therefore accompanied by a comprehensive clean-up of all six strands of the building
.
