The building at Liebigstrasse 20 + 22, located in the heart of the Johannesviertel neighbourhood, has been renovated since the end of August. The aim was to improve the energy efficiency of the property, which dates back to the 1950s (built in 1954), and to increase living comfort. As part of the modernisation, the roof was also extended to create two new flats.
The modernisation included installing a thermal insulation composite system and insulating the roof. Stairwells and outdoor areas were refurbished, entrance doors to the building and flats were replaced, underground pipes were renovated and a new letterbox and doorbell system was installed. The balconies, some of which were damaged, were also renewed or replaced with modern front balconies and the bathrooms were modernised (string renovation). In addition, the property was converted from gas-fired heating to district heating and rubbish and bicycle parking spaces as well as three car-sharing spaces were installed in the outdoor areas. The modernisation was carried out in consultation with the heritage office - although the building itself was not a listed building. For example, a façade colour typical of the period of its construction was selected and the height of the dormers optimised in collaboration with the conservationists.
The modernisation was completed in August 2019.
