Work has been underway at Mathildenhof since October 2019. The three-storey residential buildings from the 1950s are being extended by 1.5 storeys to create new living space. A new building with eight flats and a community centre is also being added. This will create 34 new flats and a commercial unit.
Adding a storey is the most resource-efficient way to create new living space, as no new surfaces need to be sealed. Combined with an innovative building services system, this is a major inner-city contribution to climate protection in Darmstadt.
1 to 4-room flats are being built. The flats will range in size from approx. 50 to approx. 80 square metres. In the inner courtyard, there will be around 50 parking spaces as well as a playground, a neighbourhood square with associated pergola and storage building, two bicycle storage buildings and two rubbish houses as well as lush green areas with a number of bushes and trees.
